cans for cash.
Raising $5,200 is not easy. Rather than just relying solely on support letters, I decided to do something else that allows other people to easily help: collecting aluminum cans.
That’s right, I want your used aluminum cans.
Why?
Several recycling centers actually pay individuals for their used aluminum cans. I thought this would be a great way to help get others involved, seeing as it’s not too painless.
How can you help?
Instead of throwing your cans in the garbage or even your own recycle bin, I’m asking that you set them aside and give them to me. I will get them from you and then take them to a recycling center.
It will literally take thousands of cans for me to raise even a few hundred dollars from this project, so collect as many as you can. If you want, tell everyone—your friends, family, local business that doesn’t recycle. If you’re feeling generous, go dig around the trash for a bit…ok, I’m not asking you to do that, but if you want to—go for it! The thing is, I need YOUR help.
How will the cans get to me?
I’m willing to work with you. I can pick them up from you when I’m in the area. In the future, I will be posting contact information for people in Jacksonville, Gainesville, and Orlando that you can get in touch with if you have a ton of cans. For now, just collect cans, put them in a trash bag, and sit tight for a bit. If you have a ton, let me know and I’ll come by and get them. I’ll also keep you updated on when I’m making trips so I can pick them up from you when I’m in that city or have a location where you can drop them off. Currently I am in Jacksonville, but I will be in Orlando and Gainesville at the beginning of August, so if you have cans, I can get them from you then. So collect away! Starting now would be awesome!
How long will this go on?
COTN would like for me to have my money raised by the beginning of September, but depending on how this goes, I am looking to keep this going until October 1. It’s likely that I will have to pay a lot of money out of pocket in order to have money turned in by the beginning of September, so collecting cans until October 1 will allow me to pay myself back a bit.
Thank you so much for your help! Now go collect some cans!
If you would like to get in touch with me, have some cans you want to donate, or would like to partner with me in a bigger way, feel free to send me an email at kmarks625@gmail.com
